More About Sandy

Hi! I’m Sandy, an engineer and a marketer on a mission to empower biotech and medtech companies grow and accomplish their goals.

I achieve this by combining my technical expertise and marketing skills to quickly identify where a company is in their trajectory, what success looks like for them, and what their biggest gaps are. And then I get to work. If you’re just looking for advice, there are many consultants out there who’ll happily oblige. But if you’re looking for someone who’ll work alongside you and your team to help you meet your goals, get funding, develop products, and grow revenue, let’s talk.

“Dr. Williams joined our team as a management and technical consultant for our pediatric heart valve company, Polyvascular. She was highly recommended by colleagues and for good reason! She was able to quickly get up to speed and strengthen our market, clinical, and technical R&D strategies. She was able to confidently advise management based on her years of industry and research experience.

For R&D strategy, Dr. Williams introduced us to expert consultants and KOLs for highly technical polymer, valve, and FEA/CFD modeling projects. She has a strong knowledge of the space and is well respected in the medical device and tissue engineering fields.

Dr. Williams also has an amazing eye for telling your story. She took a fresh look and revised our pitch deck, mission statement, and clinical messaging, and helped us revise our R&D data for investor presentations. The results of this led to successful grant applications and fundraising for our early stage startup.

Overall, Dr. Williams is an incredible person to work with, cheerful, positive, and always looking out for you and your company’s success. We will continue to consult with her for as long as she will stay with us. You will be lucky to have her as part of your team.”

CLIENT PROJECTS

All my work is in the biomedical space. That’s what I am passionate about and where I give 110%.

I work with small and medium size companies in medtech, regenerative medicine, and biotech, and with medium to large (multibillion $) companies that are suppliers to or service providers for these industries.

My clients typically struggle with articulating what they do and what they offer in a clear, compelling, and impactful way. So I help them translate.

I’ve helped startups win SBIR grants, prepare investor pitch decks, plan new product development projects, and prioritize product and technology roadmaps.

Many client projects have been all about marketing: from marketing strategy to tactics execution. These client companies established a digital presence and a marketing plan that fits where they are on their journey and what they are trying to accomplish. Because at the end of the day, you need a marketing plan that works for you, not a template.

GIVING BACK

Giving back is huge for me. I love mentoring young professionals and helping them on their success journey, however each one of them defines it.

I am actively engaged in volunteer professional activities in the biomedical field.

  • Review grants for the NSF (National Science Foundation), including SBIR proposals, and Regenerative Medicine Minnesota
  • Serve as an invited reviewer of submitted manuscripts to the Annals of Biomedical Engineering, Tissue Engineering, and Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering journals
  • Co-chaired the development of the standard guide for characterization of tissue engineered vascular grafts that’s now published at ASTM (the standards organization)
  • Served as program evaluator for biomedical engineering programs for ABET (the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology).

ON THE TECHNICAL SIDE

I am a biomedical engineer and a marketer. This part is all about engineering.

  • BS. in Metallurgical Engineering in 1998 from the National Technical University of Athens
  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering in 2003 from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta
  • Doctoral thesis was focused on the development of bioreactors for small diameter tissue-engineered vascular grafts using biodegradable scaffolds and human and animal endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells and fibroblasts
  • Postdoctoral training at the University of Minnesota in Dr. Bob Tranquillo’s lab working on heart valve and vascular graft tissue engineering while consulting for ElectroForce Systems Group (ESG) of Bose Corporation on the development of the BioDynamic Test Instrument product line
  • Author of several papers in peer-reviewed journals (on PubMed under Chrysanthi Williams), co-inventor on 5 tissue engineering bioreactor patents, and presenter at numerous international conferences.

ON THE BUSINESS SIDE

That consulting project early in my career got me excited about industry and working with other talented professionals.

  • 10 amazing years at Bose Corporation in various roles and positions: applications engineer, market and product manager, business unit manager, and director of market/product vision development and customer satisfaction
  • Worldwide travel to meet customers with sales team; these 10 years in front of customers taught me more than I could ever imagine
  • Founded Access Biomedical Solutions in 2015 when I realized that my calling is helping others achieve their goals. I am no longer bound to a specific product or technology, but rather have the opportunity to help biomedical professionals in many different areas. I love that!
  • I am a self-confessed learning addict: books and online content on business, startups, marketing, neuromarketing, psychology, and sales; marketing, leadership, and sales courses and training; numerous certifications in marketing.

And I constantly continue learning because the more I learn, the better I can help my clients, which is why I do what I do.

“Sandy has been the most versatile consultant I have ever worked with! Her technical expertise as a PhD Biomedical Engineer, her marketing knowledge, and business strategy experience are an extremely rare combination that has helped my company develop a business focus and a digital presence to reach our target customers. Sandy has been flexible in how she has supported our business, from helping us develop job descriptions, interview, and hire technical staff, draft and execute our entire marketing strategy on her own, support sales outreach and business development, identify strategic partners, and serve as a sounding board for all my new ideas for the company. I completely trust Sandy and know that she always has our company’s best interests at heart.

I highly recommend her to any other CEOs and founders who are looking to grow their business, figure out their strategic direction, and want to work with somebody who is not just going to tell them what they need to do but also actually do the work. Sandy not only has the knowledge and expertise but is also delightful to work with and gets along great with my team.”
